Just Another Manic(ure) Monday
November 26, 2018
I believe that a person's hands can tell a lot about them. I have a weird habit of noticing a person's hands upon first meeting. Coming from a person who has dry skin and is a nail biter--it is very easy to "let things go" when it comes to your hands. I have tried my hardest to keep my hands moisturized and manicured to make sure that when I shake someone's hand they are getting the best "first impression" of me.
Back in March I was introduced to SNS dipping powders by my roommate, Kate. What are dipping powders you ask? Well, according to SNS Nails "the company introduced a breakthrough innovation: SNS Dipping Powders. With the powders came a base that is packed with nutrients-- vitamins A, E, D, E, and B5, plus calcium. The effect is dramatic. Instead of causing harm to the nail bed, every use of the new formula actually improves its health." Since I have started using SNS dipping powders my nails have grown and I have actually stopped biting my nails!
I was able to find a shape that I loved and have been able to experiment with many different colors and, my favorite, nail art! I am a sucker for anything sparkly, so give me any glitter powder and I will say yes! My current situation is a little extra-- like me!
I cannot wait to start with the dark, vampy fall/winter nails this season! What are your go-to nail colors? Comment below!

Makeup Collection: Eyeshadow Palette Edition

Too Faced "Sweet Peach"
Too Faced Sweet Peach Palette |
"A new take on neutrals featuring fresh-picked shades of peachy pinks, corals, bronzes, and pops of purples that will have you looking sweet as a peach year-round." -Too Faced |
This is my one and only palette from the brand Too Faced. It was incredibly hyped up on social media and I couldn't wait to try it. I may have set an alarm on my phone to wake up at 3am to buy it online. I know-- crazy! I was able to get my hands on it before it sold out during the initial release and I was so excited! The colors are gorgeous and it smells AMAZING. Peach deliciousness in every dip! I have used this palette so much and still haven't hit pan on any of the shadows! I love that it is such a easy palette to travel with. The packaging is great and durable. I love the neutral colors that can be used for every day looks and that there are options to help punch up a look for a more sultry, smoky evening look. I love this palette!
Buxom Cosmetics "Look All You Want"
Buxom "Look All You Want" Palette |
This was part of a holiday gift set. I received this and have only used it a few times. The neutral color at the end of the palette is a great transition shade. I haven't found many neutral shades that work in my crease because I am so fair skinned. A lot of them tend to look muddy on me or are too warm. This one is the perfect balance. I like the other shades, but it isn't a palette that I gravitate to all the time. I think I need to play around with it a little more!
Buxom Cosmetics Create Your Own Using Single Bar Shadows
Buxom Cosmetics Single Bar Shadows |
L-R: Diamond Darling, Pure Platinum, Jetsetter, La La Lavish, LBD, Patent Leather |
Another Buxom Cosmetics palette! I created this one on my own using their bar single shadows. My goal was to create a palette that could be used for a cool-toned, metallic, smoky eye look. Specific goals-- I know! But, this black eyeshadow is one of the best black shadows that I have used. It is pigmented and builds beautifully. It's perfect to deepen an eye look! I can do a sleek silver eye or a deep, vampy, gunmetal purple eye-- beautiful colors!

This palette was released with some controversy in the online beauty community. It was hyped up on social media and then when the beauty influencers received their palettes they weren't finding them to perform like other ABH shadows had. They complained that they weren't blendable and that they had a ton of fall out. To be honest, these reviews kept me from buying the palette in the beginning! Over time I saw a few reviews that said that they liked the product I was interested in trying it out, but wasn't ready to fork over the full price. I ended up finding the palette in TJMaxx for half the price and decided to add it to my collection. I had watched so many videos and seen so many looks that I wanted to play with it immediately. I liked it! I didn't find that I had any issues with the blending of the shadows. It did have quite a bit of fall out, but that doesn't bother me. I actually find that a lot of ABH shadows have a good bit of fall out, so it isn't anything new to me. The palette doesn't have colors that I would normally gravitate towards, but they are beautiful and I can't want to play more!

I talked about my love for this palette in my Current Makeup Routine post. This is my go-to palette and the one that I travel with everywhere I go. I don't know if you could tell by looking at her-- poor thing is so dirty (I mean loved). It is the most versatile palette that I own. You can create a neutral day look, a smoky evening look, or a bright, colorful look. Literally anything you want! Combine this palette with the rest of her vault collection and you don't need anything else!
Morphe Cosmetics 35 Shadow Palettes
Morphe Cosmetics 35D Palette (disconinued) |
"Dark smoky palette is a vast collection of seductive, sultry and striking shades for a captivating smoky eyed look. From deep indigo and violet hues to iconic grey, taupe and dark neutral colors, this palette is a must have for any makeup pro or novice alike. Designed to create dimesion and impact, this coveted eyeshadow palette offers a variety of finishes and each shade can be applied wet or dry for various intensities." -Morphe Cosmetics
Morphe Cosmetics 35O Palette |
"From cooler grey-toned browns to fiery sunset colors, this palette is a beautiful mix of wearable warm neutrals that give you effortles versatility whether you are after a daytime look or full-on glam. The perfect balance of matte and shimmery finishes make it a go-to for makeup lovers at every skill level. Get everything you need to highlight, blend and transition without ever wearing the same look twice." -Morphe Cosmetics
Morphe Cosmetics 35N Palette |
"A natural matte eye look is easy, effortless and works for any occasion. This palette has versatile, complimentary shades and lets you create endless combinations that can be subtle or more dramatic with a high quality, pigmented formula that is super easy to blend." -Morphe Cosmetics
I obviously have an unhealthy relationship with Morphe Cosmetics. No one needs seven eyeshadow palettes from one brand. Girl! But, I love them all and use them for different looks. Each one serves a purpose for me.
I understand that this probably seems like a lot to some people. Trust me-- it's a lot to me too! I just love makeup! Do you have a go-to palette that you use? Share your favorites below! Let me know if you want to see any other portions of my makeup collection.
2018 Holiday Gift Guide
November 12, 2018
Halloween is over and now begins the countdown to Christmas. If my roommate had anything to do with it our house would be covered in lights, tree up and decorated and Christmas songs playing all day and night. Sooooo... ha! We are going to hold off on the decorating for right now, but it isn't too soon to start shopping! I always have a hard time trying to decide what to get my friends and family or even what to ask for when someone asks for ideas! I read so many blogs and watch so many YouTube videos for inspiration and figured that I could do the same for you guys! Mine are going to be a bit more beauty-centric, so if that isn't your thing... well why are you here?
When I tell you this is one of my favorite scents in the world... girl! I learned about Fresh Cream from my friend Ashley when she was up visiting for my birthday a few years ago. She put on the body lotion and my nose was immediately attracted. It smelled like the most amazing freshly whipped cream, vanilla deliciousness. It isn't sickeningly vanilla like some scents (I'm talking about you Vanilla Fields) or like a cakey vanilla. I'm telling you it is so good! This set comes with everything you need-- body wash/bubble bath, hand cream, body lotion and a body spray! This scent goes a long way and so does the product. Great gift!
Beauty Blenders are my all time favorite beauty sponge. I have tried a lot of different brands and liked a lot of them, but none of them are as good as my beauty blender. Only problem is that they are $20 a piece! That is expensive and, while I love them, I'm not always willing to pay that much when I can get another sponge that I like for $7. The great thing about this gift is that it comes with a solid beauty blender cleanser! The cleanser is the only product that seems to get my beauty blenders clean, so this is a great bonus!
This is a gift set that I never buy myself, but it is such a great idea! You get 15 perfume samples and can try all of them out before deciding which is your perfect scent! I have a weird body chemistry and perfumes never smell the same on me as they do on other people, so getting to test them out before committing is ideal. I guess my pheromones are just too strong! Once you decide which is your favorite you can bring in the certificate that comes with the set and trade it in for a full size bottle! Are you kidding!? Such a great idea for a gift!
This is my favorite gift on this list! I am a HUGE fan of the Luminous Dewy Skin Mist & the Silk Canvas primer by Tatcha, but I flat out REFUSE to pay the exorbitant prices! A full size of the skin mist is $48 and a full size primer is $52-- insanity. This kit includes a FULL SIZE bottle of the skin mist and travel sized Silk Canvas primer, Water Cream and Violet-C Radiance face mask. These products last a long time, so the travel sizes are perfect! I want this set, so if anyone that is gifting me this holiday season is reading-- keep this in mind!
I mentioned my love for the original Jaclyn Hill palette with Morphe Cosmetics in my last post (My Current Makeup Routine) and this is another collaboration between them. These four eyeshadow palettes include 40 original shadows that Jaclyn created with Morphe Costmetics that did not make it into her first palette. She loved the shadows so much that she decided to release a separate vault collection and broke them up into 4 color families. You can buy each palette on its own for $15 or you can buy the whole collection for $49. I personally own three of the four palettes (still need Dark Magic in case anyone is asking) and love them all! The pigmentation and quality is incredible and the price point is even better! Great gift idea for someone who is building their makeup collection or an established makeup fanatic like myself!
I've covered a wide range of skin care, beauty accessories, bath & body, and cosmetics. Hopefully this list helps with some gift giving ideas for your friends and family! Do you have any ideas for gifts this holiday season? Let me know below in the comments if you have any great ideas or if you are having a hard time finding a gift for someone in your life and need some advice! Happy Holidays everyone!
1. Jade Roller
Crystal Facial Roller $33 |
I have been interested in jade rollers since my cousin's lovely girlfriend bought one for my aunt. I was intrigued and started researching what the benefits were for jade rolling. What I was able to find through Ulta's site was that jade rolling:
- Helps to stimulate collagen which helps to improve elasticity of the skin.
- Reduces appearance of puffiness and wrinkles.
- Aids in lymphatic drainage.
- Helps to eliminate toxins.
- Tightens pores since the crystal remains cold even when in direct contact with the skin.
2. Philosophy Fresh Cream Gift Set

5. Morphe x Jaclyn Hill Vault Collection

SO PRETTY! |
My Current Makeup Routine
November 5, 2018
Admittedly, no makeup days are great, but I do enjoy wearing makeup. I have heard "Oh you don't need makeup!" or "You are beautiful without all of that stuff!" Thank you, but please know I don't wear it for you. Now, I don't always do a full glam face, but I do wear makeup pretty much daily. I have my every day routine set and wanted to share my favorite products with you!
Foundation: I like a liquid foundation for myself. I used to use powder foundation, but as my skin is aging (relax-- I know 33 is young) I have preferred a liquid. I am curious about how a cream foundation would work for me, but I haven't been brave enough to try that yet. Maybe I will do a review of a few cream foundations in a future post! Comment below if you would like to see that! My favorite foundation of the moment is actually from the drugstore! I am obsessed with the Covergirl Vitalist Healthy Elixir right now. This is a hydrating formula that is infused with vitamins E, B3, B5 and has an SPF 20! I'm telling you-- it's so good! It has a buildable coverage; I'm a full coverage kind of gal and this is perfect! It has a dewy finish, but doesn't make you look greasy. The only downfall is the shade range. I am fair, but not the fairest of them all (despite what my inner princess tells me) and I just make it into the lightest shade. I could probably go lighter during the winter months, but this is the lightest that they offer. The only thing that I would change about this product is that they would carry a more inclusive range of shades.

Concealer: Here is where I have been changing it up recently. I am a die-hard lover of Double Duty Beauty Shape Tape Concealer, but it is on the pricier side and I have only repurchased it once. I love how it looks, but would like to save money where I can, and if I have found a dupe for it I will use that instead. Luckily I have found two. I used the Makeup Revoltion Conceal & Define full coverage concealer, and I loved it. I mean it was $7 AND a good product-- sold! The only thing I didn't like was the scent. It smelled a bit medicinal, but if you aren't sensitive to that I would totally recommend it. Currently I am using the Maybelline Instant Age Rewind. It is full coverage, but not thick. I used it years ago and forgot all about it! The applicator being attached to the product is convenient; however, I don't like how messy the bottle can get. That is literally my only draw back.
Setting Powder: I am here to tell you that if you think this is a step that can be skipped, you are WRONG! You have just covered your face in liquid products, and they need to be set in place otherwise they will melt right off. I have and always will use Laura Mercier Translucent Loose Setting Powder. It is light enough that I don't feel cakey, but heavy enough to lock my makeup in place! I have found a trick that has helped with my setting powder and I will never go back. Apply it with a damp beauty sponge. Tap the product you need into the lid and dip in your sponge. If you have oily/combination skin like mine, you can apply a heavier amount in your t-zone and then lightly dust the rest of your face. Trust me-- it's amazing!

Contour: This isn't a necessary step, but I like it. Adding dimension to my face makes me a happy Carlye. My all time favorite contour powder is Sombre by Kat Von D, which is in the Shade + Light Palette. Right now, mine is out and I don't have the refillable palette. So, my dear reader I've run into a dilemma. In its place I have started to use the contour color in a limited edition contour & highlight palette by Tarte. I like a cooler undertone for my coloring, so this shade was perfect. I like this powder, but it isn't my Sombre. I will probably purchase the single pan of that once I am finished with this.
Don't Be Afraid To Dazzle by Tarte Cosmetics |
Marc Jacobs O!Mega Coconut Bronzer |
Blush: I have so many favorites in this category, but what I have been using lately is the Nude Blush Palette by BH Cosmetics. I found it at Target for... wait for it... $9.99!! What?! Yes-- and there are 10 shades! This palette includes the perfect nude shade for all skin tones! I love that these give a light wash of color. They are pigmented, but not too much. I love them!
Highlighter: My all time favorite highlighter is Champagne Pop by Becca Cosmetics. It is a champagne peach dream and it is GORGEOUS! It's not a blinding highlight upon first application, but you can build her up to SHINE TO THE GODS! Not much to say other than-- obsessed.

Champagne Pop Shimmering Skin Perfector Pressed Highlighter |
Eyeshadow: I don't usually wear eyeshadow daily, but when I do, I go for a simple brown. I think that browns are the easiest neutral for a day-to-day look. I have so many eyeshadow palettes (post coming soon), but my go-to recently has been the Jaclyn Hill palette by Morphe. This was a collaboration with Morphe cosmetics and my fav Beautuber (Beauty YouTuber) Jaclyn Hill. If you don't know her you should-- I love her. This has 35 colors that range from warm to cool, matte to shimmer, and everything in between. It has neutrals, pops of color, and glitter for when you want to be a little extra. Did I mention that it is only $38?! That's only $1.09 a shadow! You can't even get those prices at WalMart! It's an amazing palette and I cannot recommend it enough!
Morphe x Jaclyn Hill Palette |
Eyebrows: I have found a new favorite in the Anastasia of Beverly Hills (ABH) Brow Definer pencil. I like it because it isn't too sticky with wax, but has enough to help keep the hair in place. The tapered shape is great for getting thinner, more precise lines as well as thicker lines to fill in space. It is dual ended with a spoolie, which makes it even better! I follow this up with the ABH tinted brow gel and those girls aren't going anywhere! Always remember, your brows are sisters, not twins.
